L’DoughV’Dough and the Knead for Tolerance

For the journalism project I was required to interview an actual human, and I had the pleasure of sitting down with holocaust survivor Amelie to bake challah bread and discuss her tumultuous past. It was incredible to hear the firsthand account of her emigration experience, something which the journalism project fostered. During this hour long convocation event, Amelie unfolded the vivid details of her life, one after another, to a group of Pepperdine students who were complete strangers only minutes prior. Having worked with the Los Angeles Museum of the Holocaust for the past two years, she is an experienced teacher, and she tells and retells her story to all who will listen, understanding that her existence and our understanding of it is of dire importance.
